When we consider what we should teach in our classrooms, this cartoon is the epitome of why teachers must make our curriculum not only challenging, exploratory, and integrative, but especially relevant to our students lives. Students want to know 'why' they need to know all the 'stuff' teachers try to teach them.

I agree - I think teachers need to put in the research to provide solid, believable arguments and examples as to why math IS actually useful. I fully understand why some students feel that alot of what they learn isn't relevant - it's or job to change their minds.
